Training to Involve Youth Participation in the 2024 Simultaneous Elections

The Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) in collaboration with PolGov and Election Corner held a limited training event entitled “Training for Youth Participation Involvement in the 2024 Simultaneous Elections”. This training aims to increase students’ understanding and capacity in organizing elections. This training was held for two days at the Uttara Apartment, Yogyakarta.

The event began with participants being asked to complete a pre-test to measure participants’ knowledge regarding the 2024 simultaneous elections. After that, the event continued with a seminar with the theme “The Role of Young Voters in the 2024 Simultaneous Elections” with resource persons Heroik M. Pratama, Alfath Bagus Panuntun El Nur Indonesia, Ahmad Shidqi, and Mohammad Najib. The seminar took place with each resource person delivering material related to the important role of youth in the 2024 simultaneous elections, then ended with a question and answer session with the participants.

The event continued with the provision of material from Perludem with the theme “Democratic Elections and with Integrity” and “Youth Participation Space in the 2024 Election”. The material runs interactively, where participants asked to discuss in groups what democratic and integrity elections are and how young people can participate to make this happen. After the discussion, representatives from each group asked to present the results to all training participants, and each group provided feedback regarding the results from other groups.

The event continued the next day, Perludem presented material with a more technical theme than the first day, namely “Voting Procedures in the 2024 Election” and “Requirements for Becoming a KPPS Member The event continued on the next day with Perludem presenting material that was more technically focused than the previous day. After that, the event continued with “Simulation of Becoming a KPPS Member and TPS Supervisor on Election Day,” where each participant took part in a roleplay with their respective roles, starting from TPS supervisor, KPPS member, witness, to the voter. This session was interactive and fun as well as substantive, where participants were required to act as if it were real voting day. The event then ended with a discussion regarding the Follow-up Plan for participants who were interested in registering as KPPS members and TPS supervisors.

The event ended after each participant asked to complete the post-test provided to measure participants’ knowledge regarding the 2024 simultaneous elections after attending the training. Perludem hoped that this activity can encourage youth participation in the 2024 simultaneous elections, by involving themselves as KPPS members or TPS supervisors on voting day.
